Q: What do restaurants want from a POS system in response to changing customer demand?
Brandon: Consumers are beginning to expect restaurants to integrate technology that improves their ordering and dining experience. This expectation has led restaurants to actively seek out technology solutions that can improve the customer experience while also improving their business operations. Some features that address this demand include loyalty functionality, mobile integration, online ordering, online reservations, and tableside order entry. All of these features add value and convenience for the customer while also helping the restaurant more effectively manage sales and service.
Q: What are the most common trends in mobility and mobile POS for restaurants?
Brandon: Mobile payments are definitely a focus in the industry right now, although there are still many alternate solutions vying to become the leader in the space. Tableside order entry is also a rapidly growing trend since it offers significant benefits in efficiency to the restaurant. Online ordering has also seen a rise in popularity since it adds a convenience factor for customers and allows restaurants to more effectively manage their incoming delivery and pick-up orders.
Q: What specific features of mobile POS can resellers look for that will help their customers have the functionality they need?
Brandon: Restaurants don’t necessarily need to use a mobile POS system to give customers the technology they demand. In fact, many traditional POS systems are now integrating cutting-edge features and functionality while delivering more robust software and hardware. Some of the features that resellers should look for when selecting a system include cloud-based reporting and other cloud-based functionality as well as online ordering and reservations. It is also important to choose a system that offers ongoing software updates so that you can rest assured that your customer’s system won’t quickly become obsolete.
Q: How do you address security and PCI compliance with mobile POS?
Brandon: Since Harbortouch is coming from the payments space originally, we have a strong focus on security and PCI compliance. Although our flagship Elite POS system is not a mobile system, we have made sure that all mobile integration is extremely secure and complies with PCI standards. Our product development process always keeps security as a top priority.
